1973 Still Life, oil on canvas

Jimmy went to Nanyang Academy of Fine Art in 1973 and then he went to study in Ngee Ann Technical College in 1974.

1974 Self Portrait, oil on canvas 24 x 18 inches

A self-portrait Jimmy painted in 1974. In the same year, one of his painting titled: "Interior" won him a Third Prize in a National Art Competition in Western Painting Open Section.

This is one of a Chinese painting created by Jimmy in the 70's. He learned Chinese painting from Secondary school teacher and teachers at NAFA, and he continued practising Chinese painting during that times. His work was selected for National Day Art Exhibition that year.

1981 Self Portrait, pencil on canvas panel  

A sketching made on a canvas panel. It is a preparation for painting. Jimmy did not proceed to paint it. He abandoned the painting idea as he was busy working in a design company during that time.

1983 Event 6.4.1983,  Mixed Media, 100 x 120 cm

One of the art explorations made with mixed media in the 80's. This painting was created to mark the birthday of his nephew. This painting won a certification of commendation in The Painting of the Year art competition in 1983.

1985 Drawing Flag, Oil on canvas, 82 x 61 cm

One day Jimmy learned that Brother Joseph McNally had started St Patrick's School of Art, Jimmy admired Brother Joseph McNally and his works, so he went to learn art in that art school. This is one of the paintings Jimmy created after leaning painting from a western art teacher in the school.

1986 Swimmers, Oil on canvas, 92 x 92 cm

Jimmy searched for ways of fine art expression during the beginning of his art journey in the 80's. This is one of a figurative painting that he painted during that time.

1987 Aerial View (G & B ), Oil on canvas, 90 x 80 cm

Jimmy painted a series of Aerial View paintings, he used lines, colors and shapes to arrange the compositions.

1988 Pace,  Oil on canvas, 132 x 122 cm

One of the two paintings that won him a prize from IBM Art Award in 1988.  This painting won a Merit Award. It was kept with Jimmy since then. The other painting which won the First Prize had becom Singapore Art Museum's collection.

1989 Unforgettable Beach, Acrylic on canvas, 141 x 47 cm

Jimmy made paintings with his own invented images and colors. They come from the inner source of his heart. This painting was exhibited in "Many in One: 25 Years of Art from Singapore; Travelling Exhibition in USA" in 1991.

This painting was exhibited in his one-man art exhibition "Spirit of Nature" in 1990.

The rubber trees Jimmy saw around Santisukharama Meditation Centre, when he first time joined the meditation retreats there, has moved him to create this series of paintings themed around them.

1992 There is a Pool, Acrylic on canvas, 102 x 76 cm

Inspiration of this painting came from the views from the top of Fort Canning Hill. There one could see the River Valley Swimming Pool. This painting was documented in a coffee table edition art book "Singapore - Places Poems Paintings". The painting was exhibited at the National Museum Art Gallery Singapore in 1993.

Jimmy painted this painting to express a memory of what he saw in a dream.

This painting was exhibited in his one-man art exhibition in 1998. One of the trees series paintings.

1997 Victory, Acrylic on canvas, 152 x 122 cm

When Jimmy's neighbors came to him with his grievances about life at Telok Kurau Studios, Jimmy tried to advice him about living in peace and joy and to be forgiving. He explained the nature of Buddha's compassion and, as an illustration, told him the story of how Buddha had used his compassion to subdue an enraged and intoxicated elephant. Many days laterJimmy started working on this painting.

1998 Walking Meditation, Acrylic on canvas, 92 x 76

Meditation can be practiced in walking and in daily activities. Ideas of making painting with images of walking arouse in Jimmy one day and he started making the Walking Meditation series since then.

Paintings of Jimmy's Landscape series evolved since he started it.

2000 Meditation & Pagoda, Acrylic on canvas, 92 x 92 cm

There were many Pagodas constructed everywhere in Myanmar. Once Sayadaw U Pandita mentioned that people should construct Dhamma Pagodas in their heart instead. By practising meditation each and every moment in our daily life without a pause, In this way people construct Dhamma Pagodas in their heart. Jimmy painted this series of paintings with that understanding in mind.

2001 Abundance of Joy, Acrylic on canvas, 122 x 92 cm

Golden Showers Trees can be seen along the road at where Jimmy live. Feeling joyful seeing them when they were in full blossoms, he started Golden Showers Series since 1997 for expressing emotions of joy and happiness.

The Bougainvillaea series comprises some of the brighter pictures that Jimmy has even done. This series of painting were poetic images of joy, offering the prospect of a totally agreeable, happy experience, reflecting moods of buoyancy and confidence at the time.
